Days 1, 2, and 3 - Thailand (March 8 -10, 2020)
First of all, the coronavirus showed it’s face during the last few weeks of planning time of the trip. We weren’t sure what was going to happen, but all felt good about going to Thailand. So, after a handful of flight changes, we finally got everything sorted.

The second leg was in Premium Select. Between the two flights, I finally learned how the other half lives. So. Nice! I forgot to take a picture of the second and third flights. However, Premium Select is worth the cost of the ticket.

We had some communication issues, but we finally met up and made it to our hotel by 1:00 a.m. This is what 30 hours of total travel looks like:

We have a really nice hotel! Our room was fantastic!

When we brought our spoils back to the hotel, we took advantage of the pool being empty!

We hung out by the pool until it was time for our spa treatments, under plumeria trees. When we walked in our rooms, we quickly learned that we were having a couple’s massage. The two rooms were connected by open partition doors.

A 90 minute massage, 30 minute foot massage, and a 60 minute facial was a lot to take in. When the masseuse first walked in, I wasn’t quite done getting undressed. However, after a mix up on the towel covering me, I was finally settled.

By the time we were done with our spa treatments, my parents were all settled in to their room, which is just across the hall from ours! What a joy it was to see them after so long!

We decided to meet up for dinner after some quick showers. We walked a few blocks from our hotel to an authentic Thai restaurant. I think we subconsciously suspected something was up when they brought us a box of tissues after we ordered our food.

I ordered the green curry chicken pizza with a passion fruit lemonade. Delicious! But it was a little intense at times for my eating companions!
Sunday morning, we finally found ourselves at the airport! Make sure you plan on 28+ hours of travel time in order to make it all the way from Salt Lake.
The first leg of our trip was in First Class!

There have been a lot less crowds at the internationals airports, with a lot smaller crowds of people. Every flight we took was probably less than half full. So on the Air Nippon Airways flight for Bangkok, I sat in a row by myself, which meant I could lie down and sleep for a few hours!
When we landed, we had a quick trip through customs and then waited for the tour company to come pick us up. My mom found a company that planned everything for us this time!

Today, we decided to take it easy and spend time at the pool and spa. We went down to breakfast, and had the whole buffet to ourselves! The food was delicious!
From breakfast, we walked to the pool and spa areas. We decided to book some spa treatments. We figured out we could have three hour treatments for less than $150, including tips and taxes. So, after deciding on which ones, we went in search of water. There is a 7-11 a few blocks from the hotel. So, we decided we would walk the few blocks to get it.
It is impressive the number of scooters that are everywhere. The power lines are also aplenty!
7-11 was full of interesting finds!

There are several areas where my muscles screamed from being rubbed down, but I made it through the experience. I also have learned that I don’t want my stomach area massaged again.
There was one point where both masseuses were out of the room, and Alex and I just started laughing. Oh the stories we collect while traveling! This is what three hours at a spa looks like (painful, but hopefully good!):

Talk. About. Spicy! Although we asked for mild, mine was the most mild, and it still made my nose run and lips tingle after dinner. Everyone else had good food, but it was extremely spicy!

I thought that my dad had small green beans on his plate. Turns out they were mini peppers, so I didn’t eat them. On my mom’s way out of the restaurant, she popped on in her mouth and that was the final spicy straw that did her in. At 7-11, she bought some flavored milks and drank them to tamp down the heat. Lesson learned!
Back at the hotel, we decided to play some games together before heading to bed. It was a day full of laughter, awkward moments, spicy food, humidity, family, and love. I’m ready to start exploring Bangkok on day 4!
