Québec Day 1 (18 July 2018)

We first started the trip last night around 7:00 p.m.  After hooking up the travel trailer, we were on the road!  I had taken the train from Boston to NYC, and then on to where Wendy lives, yesterday morning. As we were driving last night, we went through several of the towns I had passed by earlier in the day. 😊

We knew we were driving for about four hours, and finding a Walmart parking lot to sleep for the evening. (Did you know not all Walmart parking lots allow you to sleep in them?). So, Chicopee, Massachusetts was the winner!  After getting settled and everyone headed to bed, it was close to midnight, after stopping for gas and food.

The windows were open, but this is the land of humidity. It also stormed and rained for most of the day, so you really can feel the 97% humidity. Holy smokes. Wendy and Chris decided walk into Walmart to see about getting battery powered fans. Did you know not all Walmarts are open 24 hours?!?  The closed at midnight and reopened at 7:00 a.m.

Then we were off on the next leg. We figured out that we could check off two more states for Wendy’s map on her door.

So, after a few miles, we turned around and went towards New Hampshire and Maine. I’ve been to Maine, but only for about five seconds. We decided to drive up through Maine and it was beautiful!

Here are my fellow traveling companions (my lovely sister and her family)!

There have been amazing scenes everywhere you can look.

Since we went up through Maine, the border crossing was really small. Luckily we were the only ones there!  Sadly, one isn’t allowed to photograph border crossings, but I was able to catch a few signs before and after the crossing!

It was amazing to me how instantaneous the signs switched to French!  I guess I was expecting both French and English. Where we entered Québec, there was a lot of pretty farmland, houses, and churches dotting the views.

Wendy asked me to verify there would be someone to check us in when we got to the RV Park. So, I called and made sure all was set to go. The French accent from Québec is so different from the French accent that it makes me smile every time I hear it. So, here’s to the next week of listening to the Québécois!

We stopped at Walmart (who knew they were in Québec) for a few groceries. It was like most of my favorite things from France, with the convenience of still being a Walmart.

I’ve never even heard of this M&M flavor before!

The cashier spoke with Chris and me in French, but in English with Wendy.  Could you imagine if all the Walmart workers where you lived were fluent in a few languages?  Such a different way of thinking about your job. I loved it!

We had about an hour and a half left to drive up towards Québec City, which we made good time getting there. When we pulled into the RV Park, we got checked in. It’s a family run RV Park, which was fun to be able to talk to the parents and son in both English and French!  It’s been a day full of appreciating the beauty surrounding us. I’m so excited that I’m in Québec!
