Day 3 - Singapore (21 July 2019)

After a packed day yesterday, we decided to have an easy morning today. It’s Tami’s birthday!  We went down to breakfast at 8:00 am.

The official start to the tour was at noon. After checking out, we met in the lobby of the hotel and loaded on a bus to go to the Newton Food Centre.

This hawker center wasn’t very busy, and I appreciated it!

Some of the movie, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ was filmed here.  We decided to share some Indian Food for lunch, which was delicious!

Because of the heat and humidity, I haven’t had much of an appetite, but it was good food and great company, plus we sat by a huge fan that was like a tornado as it blew past. So, that was a perk too!

We weren’t given any napkins, but the samosas has just been fried, so Loni swipes some napkins from a nearby table. They also had a hand washing station after we cleaned our own dishes, which was much appreciated!

After walking around for a few minutes, we took some pictures before heading back to the bus.

We then drove over to the Gardens by the Bay. It is free to walk around the gardens, but if you want to go inside the domes, it costs $28 Singapore dollars, which was totally worth the money!  I wish we had had some more time there. Both of the domes were beautiful!

They had flowers and succulents from all over the world, divided into sections. It kind of felt like you couldn’t take a bad picture, anywhere you looked.  And one of the best surprises?  The air conditioning!

They also had thousand year old olive trees and the roots of baobab trees.  I’m not sure how they managed to acquire them all, but they were impressive!

Since we knew we had limited time, we made our way over to the Cloud Mountain Dome next door. It is evidently the largest man made, indoor waterfall in the world.

They have elevators to take you up to the top of the waterfall, and then you walk their gently sloped trail back down. It was (obviously) more humid in this dome, but they still had the air conditioning circulating, so it wasn’t sweltering.

By the time we got off the elevator, we were pretty strapped for time, so we took pictures as we walked down. The last few floors, we didn’t have the time to look and admire, so we made our way quickly out and back to the bus. It was impressive nonetheless.

We gathered together and after the bus found us, we went drove the few minutes over to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The fact that I had watched a Netflix documentary on it, should give you an indication of its grandeur.

Tami and I shared a room, and walked in to towel art on the bed and an impressive view!

We made our way up to the infinity pool on the 57th rooftop, after taking three elevators to get to it. Every guest has to enter with their room card, and had there been a few less people, and we weren’t packing up wet swimsuits tonight, I would’ve profited from the water.

We walked over to the mall area to eat dinner.  Every store is neatly organized with beautiful displays and big price tags. We walked around for a bit before deciding on a restaurant that served western food for Tami’s birthday.

We decided to go see the Gardens by the Bay trees, and they were having a light/music show when we were walking toward them!

We had a rendezvous at 8:30 p.m. to see the light show the hotel puts on in the bay. It was pretty impressive!  It kind of felt like Disney’s World of Color, but no Disney music and laser lights. It was fun to experience it together as a group.

We knew we wanted to see the Merlion in the Bay, so we took the 20 minute walk to the other side of the bay to see it. Albeit humid, the walk was worth the effort.

After making our way back to the hotel room, and a quick picture of the view from our balcony, we called it a night.

When traveling, I love to experience the wonder of new places. Singapore did not disappoint!  The sites, sounds, smells, and culture makes it a unique city/country to visit. I was pleasantly surprised!
