Day 1 - Germany (17 June 2019)
I made it safely to Germany to spend some time with Laura and her darling family. What a delight it is to spend time with those whom you love.
In my classes, sometimes we discuss the definition of a friend. I usually explain that a true friend is someone who understands you, and can pick up like no time has passed in your lives. I arrived yesterday afternoon, and though it’s been a year, it felt like I just saw her last week.
I finished up my laundry with enough time to repack for a road trip with Laura’s family from Kusel to Garmisch!
It was fantastic to watch the landscape change the further south we went. Germany is such a beautiful country!
When I lived in Germany as a kid, I went to Garmisch with my family. However, I don’t remember it very well. I was pretty excited to experience it with Lar and her family.
We shared stories, sang, and relaxed as the incredible countryside slid past the windows. The further into Bavaria we went, it kind of felt like Bob Ross was waiting in the wings to paint this beautiful area with all of the ‘happy little trees.’
The closer we got to Garmisch, the more it felt like home. My memories of living in Germany hold magical peaks and mystical forests with castles peppered throughout the country. I believe I mostly think of Bavaria. This place looks like how I imagine heaven will feel. So, here’s to new experiences in familiar places. 💕
I love southern Germany! It's easy to fantasize that it's a perfect place to live, at least in the summer when the skies are blue. So glad you get to go with Laura and her family!
