Day 2 - Germany (18 June 2019)
We needed to go to the grocery store to get some breakfast, and found delicious pastries and bread. On our way out, we passed one of the buildings from the 1936 Olympics near the store!
It’s a little pricey, but I think the experience is worth the money. We took the gondola up and I took a LOT of photos.
You can feel that something good is coming by how the view keeps getting better, the higher you go. When we finally got to the top, it took my breath away.
On a clear day like today, you can see four different countries up at the top: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.
What I didn’t realize was the experience would be like of how the air was so clean you could almost taste it. It is easy to think of one’s maker when you have a view like that. There was a mound of snow that the kids played on before we made our way back down. Wow. Just wow.
Rather than taking the same gondola back down the mountain, we took a cable car to a cog train to make our way back down. I didn’t realize that the cog train’s tunnel tracks were cut into the mountain, so there wasn’t much to see on our way back down. But it was relaxing to sit for a few minutes.
From the cable car, we walked out for a few minutes on to the snow. I learned that there are three glaciers up in the mountain too! It’s a super fun area where people were relaxing and eating. What a incredible experience!
When we made it back down the mountain, we walked over to Eibsee, which is a stunning alpine lake, to eat lunch and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. After spending some time there, we made it back to the van to leave.
The kids wanted to go swimming, so when we got back to the hotel, it was straight to the pool for them. Laura and I went down to watch them and relax a little.
After pool time, we went into Garmisch for dinner. It is a darling little town! I had weiner schnitzel for dinner, and it was scrumptious.
We took a walk around town to soak in few more of the darling houses before heading back for the night. The final picture is from the main balcony of the Edelweiss hotel.
There is such incredible beauty here that it’s almost surreal. It’s calm enough to press my reset button, which is necessary. Here’s to a fantastic day!
You make me want to go back there, but I guess I am next year!
