Day 3 - France (8 June 2019)

Okay. 25,000 steps in one day?  Not very hard to do when the day is packed full of sightseeing in Paris.

We started out the day with a local guide who showed us around via bus in the city.

Bus tours are always interesting. You learn a lot of information in a short amount of time. Then, you’re driven around to a variety of incredible sites, and hope you snapped a picture or two that captured what you were experiencing. Like. Tai Chi in the park, pilgrimages with hundreds of people, all bookended by historical locations.  Amazing!

We had two stops on the bus when we were able to get out and explore for a few minutes. The first stop was Les Invalides.  This is a place, where among other things, Napoleon was buried here. I was surprised to learn he was buried inside seven coffins!

We then continued onward to the Eiffel Tower stop. So many of my students were delighted to see it up close!  They’ve erected a glass wall at the base since the last time I came, but it’s as impressive as ever!

We continued on our tour aeound the Opera House and the Arc de Triomphe.  We finished just short of the Champs-Elysées.

We were able to spend lunch exploring places to eat and treats to buy. We also ‘licked the windows’ as the French say (window shopped).

There is so much to see on the Champs Elysées, but it’s fun to experience a little bit of it!  Our group met all back up and experienced another round of down pouring rain. However, I believe this trip it’s all about perspective and the experience!  We waited out the rain under a bridge by the Seine, led by our fearless Tour Director, Solène.

After the rainstorm, we went in to discover the Louvre!  I learned that it is the largest museum in the world. It is awe inspiring!

We covered all of the art pieces they wanted to see, and had some time left over, so we headed to the Egyptian exhibit!  It’s always incredible.

From the end of our visit, we wanted to take a picture from the front of the glass pyramid. So here’s a few of those, both inside and outside too.

By now, we were ready for dinner. So, we got on the métro and walked past the back side of Norte Dame for dinner. Who gets to eat in the shadow of the impressive cathedral?!?  Well, not constant shadow, due to the rain, but it was still awesome!

From dinner, we went up to Montmartre, via a picture stop at the Moulin Rouge, and (new for me too) the wall of love!

Going up to Montmartre is always pretty special. We had to hike up the hill, but there is a fun vibe, and we got to watch the sunset and walk around the artist square while eating Nutella crêpes.

We finished off the evening by watching some of the festivities in front of Sacré Coeur, and ealkingbdown the 300+ stairs. We only left one student behind, but he called another student before we were at the bottom of the stairs, so I could give him step-by-step directions to the stairs.

One of my students almost had her phone stolen, but she caught the guy before he walked off the métro. So, overall, it was a day filled with great experiences which will turn into fabulous memories! 💕
